"Big Fish in the Middle Kingdom" is a weekly podcast about making it big as a foreign fish in the world's biggest pond - China!

Every week from Beijing, host Brendan Davis talks with a fellow foreigner who is doing something challenging, unique or maybe even just a little bit crazy. Guests ranging from venture capitalists to standup comedians share funny stories, useful insights, and occasionally, cautionary tales about their lives in China.

The podcast aims to be invaluable for anyone considering making a similar move, plus entertaining and relatable enough to be fun for everyone to enjoy and learn from - with the ultimate goal of helping find new ways to relate to each other, regardless of where we happen to call home.

BRENDAN DAVIS BIO

Brendan Davis was raised in Atlanta, Georgia and started his film career in the Southeast US. He later moved to Los Angeles and has since been a producer on many award-winning films that have premiered or played at the Sundance, Toronto, Berlin, and other top film festivals, including features DEADGIRL and BORN TO DANCE and shorts "Age Inappropriate” and "Metamorphosis".

In 2012 Davis formed Kilin International in order to focus on co-productions. In 2013 Davis produced & executive produced 13 US-based episodes of long-running Chinese TV show "Jia Pian You Yue", which airs on CCTV6. The Kilin-produced episodes feature Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee (creator of The Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk), directors Justin Lin (THE FAST AND FURIOUS 2-5; STAR TREK) and M. Night Shyamalan (THE SIXTH SENSE), and actor Sean Astin (LORD OF THE RINGS), among others.

In 2016 Davis moved to Beijing in order to live and work full-time in China. After guest lecturing at Beijing Film Academy and consulting for Chinese clients, Davis joined Adamas Film in Beijing as Chairman of Adamas Film International, overseeing the internationally-facing aspects of Adamas Film projects and advising the CEO and Board members on Hollywood best practices. In 2018, Davis joined visual effects and post-production company BangBang Pictures as Director of Special Ops, a newly-created position focused on research and development projects looking towards the future of the Sino entertainment industry. Davis is also a regular on-camera guest discussing the Chinese and international film industries for "Culture Express", China's leading English-language arts & entertainment show, which airs on CGTN (China Global Television Network), formerly CCTV English.

Ever since moving to Beijing and traveling extensively throughout China himself, Davis has been consistently impressed with the diverse group of foreigners who are also having an adventure of their own. He created “Big Fish in the Middle Kingdom” to dig deeper into this phenomena and see what he could learn as well as share with the world about his new home.
